What are staddle stones?

The name “Staddle” originates from the old English word “Stathol”, meaning ‘base’ or ‘support’. The original use for Staddle stones was to lift buildings such as granaries and larders above ground to avoid infestations by rats and other vermin, as well as negate water damage from floods and heavy rainfall. These original Staddle stones were designed with a style similar to a mushroom head, this was done to stop vermin from being able to climb easily up the stones themselves, as the horizontal top stone made traversing it almost impossible for small animals.

Our Staddle stones look rather different however, we design our supports to be sleek and fit seamlessly with the posts of our oak gazebos. The benefit of using our Staddle stones is that they keep the oak frames away from any possible water damage or poor surfaces, plus they look fantastic and inadvertently raise the height of the gazebo too.
